Ralph G. Uecker, 89, of Forestville, died at Oak Creek Assisted Living in Algoma on Oct. 15, 2014. He was born on April 26, 1925, in Forestville to Albert and Ella (Haasch) Uecker. Ralph attended and graduated from Algoma High School in 1942. On Oct. 5, 1946, he married Ethel Mae Sperber at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. They were married for 68 years.

Ralph farmed in Forestville while working at the shipyards in Sturgeon Bay. He owned his own farm equipment business in Maplewood for several years and then purchased the farm implement business in Forestville from Mark Schlise in 1971, establishing Ralph Uecker and Sons Inc. After retiring from the implement business, Ralph built many homes in Sturgeon Bay.

Ralph loved playing baseball and was proud of the fact that he played ball until he was 78 years old. He also enjoyed card playing and traveling with his wife around the country and overseas. Most of all, Ralph loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Ethel, three sons, David (Sue), Dale (Norma), and Jeff (Barb); 8 grandchildren: Ben (Chin), Nick, Krissy (Kevin) Phillips, Tracy (Jeremy) LaCrosse, Britt (Rich) Peters, Tasha, Cody, and Ava; 4 great-grandchildren: Riley and Ross Phillips, Meghan and Chloe LaCrosse.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Edna (Jennings) Schmeling daughter-in-law, Peggy Uecker, sister-in-law, Joan (Blaine) Dreutzer, brother-in-law, Elton Halverson, and parents-in-law, Herman and Edna Sperber.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct.18, 2014, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Forestville with Rev. Christopher Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.

Special thanks to Oak Creek Assisted Living and Unity Hospice for the wonderful care and support.

This Sunday, September 7, begins our Christian Education season at Saint Peter’s.  At 9:30 we will conduct Sunday School classes for children ages 4 years through Eighth Grade. There will also be an Adult Bible Study at the same time. This will be video based and will follow Paul’s Maier’s Jesus, Legend or Lord curriculum. Confirmation classes will also be beginning on Wednesday, September 10.

To celebrate the beginning of our Christian education season, we will have a balloon release, a potluck dinner, and games for the kids!

Christian education is a vital part of our ministry at Saint Peter’s and a way that we live out Christ’s command to make disciples through baptism and teaching.

Members of the Saint Peter’s LWML were featured in the most recent edition of Lutheran Women’s Quarterly, the national publication of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League/Lutheran Women in Mission. During Saint Peter’s Lent services, the women collected items like combs, soap, nail clippers, and towels which were then assembled with the help of the Algoma Cub Scouts. A shining example of Saint Peter’s partnering with other community organizations for the sake of others.

“They don’t sell 75th wedding anniversary cards.” This was a consistent refrain on Sunday morning, August 3, when Ray and Ruth Krueger celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary.  Indeed, 75 years together only comes as a combination of clean living, marital fidelity, and God’s blessing.

Ray and Ruth celebrated by coming to church, accompanied by many family members and friends, and a dinner was held in their honor in our fellowship hall. May the Lord bless them with many more years together, and may He encourage our young people in marital fidelity by their example.

Today’s theme was “Jesus Saves Me.”  We learned about Jesus rescuing Peter from drowning in the sea and memorized Matthew 14:27: “Jesus said, ‘Take heart. It is I. Do not be afraid.'”

Did your child have a great time at Vacation Bible School?  We sent home registration letters to enroll your child in our Sunday School, which begins in September.  The learning and fun will continue throughout the Fall, Winter, and Spring!  We would love for you to enroll your child.

Today’s theme was “Jesus Keeps Me Safe.”  We memorized Romans 1:8  (“Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.“), learned about Jesus calming the wind and the waves, played some fun games, sang some great songs, and made some unique crafts. Check out the pictures from today!

Today’s themes was “Jesus teaches me.” We memorized Psalm 25:5 (“Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are my God and my salvation.”) and learned about Jesus calling Peter, James, and John to be fishers of men.
